July 2014, Laochra Óg Notes

Laochra-Og-CrestOn Friday 18th July the U14’s hurlers played a challenge match against Kilmichael. Fantastic performance by many on the panel. Thank you to all who travelled on the night and to the team sponsors Macroom Opticians. Their next fixture is on Tuesday 29th in Ballinhassig.

On Sunday 22nd of July U12’s hurlers made a trip to Limerick GAA grounds. They played a Munster blitz against teams from Cork, Kerry and Waterford. They got a tour of the stadium from two Limerick senior hurlers, James Ryan and Aaron Murphy who gave a great team talk in the dressing room.

On Saturday 26th July U10’s hurlers did a clean sweep by winning all three games at a county blitz in Enniskeane. They played against St. Colms of Kealkil, Bantry Blues and Newcestown. A lot of U9’s and U10’s were missing due to holidays etc. Outstanding displays by all with Ben Lyons getting the best score by controlling a puck out from his own keeper and in the same movement put it over the bar at the other end without catching the sliotar. Eoin Healy was in goals for one of the matches and pulled off some great saves. Luke Duggan, Cormac McCarthy and Jack Martin were solid at the back and put in great scores. James Slattery had a great game in mid-field scoring points and goals with some well taken frees. James Burke played well closing down attackers. The forwards Donna McCarthy, Sean Murphy and Eamonn Ó’Meachair got great scores as well from play. Thanks to all for making the journey and to team sponsors Folláin Teo.
